Get Location

Ask for the customer's address or shared location, and save it as a full address.

What it does#

Get Location asks for an address. The customer can type it or share their location. The bot looks it up on Google Maps and saves the full address it finds, for example Herzl St 10, Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel.

Use it for home visits and deliveries. To keep the address exactly as typed, use Text. To send your address to the customer, use Send Location.

Set it up#

  1. 1

    Add the step

Drag Get Location from the Flow group in the Steps panel and connect the step before it.

  2. 2

Name it and write the question

Click the step. Name it, for example visitAddress. Under Message, ask for street, number and city, or a shared location.

  3. 3

    Connect the next step

Drag the step's output to what comes next. The Phone preview tab shows Waits for a location.

  4. 4

    Confirm the address

Google picks the best match, which isn't always right. Add an Options or Buttons step such as Should we come to {{@visitAddress}}?

To keep a copy in another variable, fill in Save answer to (optional), for example customer_address.

What the customer sees#

  • WhatsApp: your question. They type the address or share a location with the paperclip.
  • Website: your question with a Use my location button. It shows Finding you... while the browser gets the location. They can also type the address.

Messages#

Click the step and open Messages at the bottom of its settings to change what the bot says on its own here. Messages has Address not found: what the customer gets when the address can't be found.

Each field shows the default in grey. Leave it empty to keep the default, or write your own: it applies to every Get Location step in this chatbot and goes live with Publish. Use for all my chatbots makes it the text for all your chatbots (account owner or admin). More texts are in Settings > System messages.

Errors and what you see#

  • The customer gets "The address is invalid, try again". Google found nothing, or the answer was only numbers. Ask for street, number and city in your question. They stay on this step until the address is found.
  • "We couldn't get your location. Type your address below instead." On the website, the browser blocked or couldn't find the location. The customer can type the address.
  • The wrong place was saved. Google took the first match. Confirm the address with the customer (see step 4).
  • Addresses outside Israel come out odd. Typed addresses are looked up in Israel and saved in Hebrew. Customers abroad should share their location instead, or use a Text step.
  • "This step isn't ready yet". Connect the step before it and the next step.

Examples#

Home visit. Get Location (visitAddress) → Buttons Should we come to {{@visitAddress}}? with Yes and Change address. Connect Change address back to Get Location.
