Chatbot settings

Brand the website chat, choose how it answers and its language, set up Talk to a person and the main menu, and edit the few messages that belong to no step.

Open Settings#

In the builder, click Settings at the top center (next to Build). Click Build to go back to the canvas.

SectionWhat it controls
LookHow the chat looks on your website: brand color, logo, name, position and theme. The rest is under More styling.
Chat experienceHow the website chat answers: message style, sources, live answers, status and Copy.
LanguageThe language of the messages the bot writes on its own.
BehaviourTalk to a person and Main menu: what customers can do from anywhere in the chat.
System messagesThe few texts that belong to no step (closed until you open it), and All bot messages.

Settings holds only what applies to the whole chatbot. What a step says when an answer doesn't fit is in that step's own Messages. Make and Google connections are shared by all your chatbots, on the Integrations page.

Some sections appear only when your account can use them, for example Behaviour when Talk to a person or Main menu is on for your account.

Look#

Design the chat your website visitors see. The Live preview on the right updates as you go: switch it between Desktop and Phone, and between Closed and Open.

SettingWhat it does
Brand colorPick a preset, Pick any color, or type a hex code like 0F766E. Used for the chat button, your visitors' messages and reply buttons.
Logo or avatarShown in the header and next to the bot's messages. PNG, JPG, SVG, GIF or WebP, up to 5 MB. Square images look best.
Bot nameShown at the top of the chat. Leave it empty for no header.
Position on your websiteBottom right or Bottom left.
ThemeLight or Dark.

Agentim picks readable text colors for you. If your brand color is hard to read or hard to spot, a warning appears right under it.

Open More styling for the rest:

  • Subtitle, like We usually reply in minutes.
  • The chat button Icon (Chat, Message, Sparkles, Question or Your logo).
  • A Welcome message bubble next to the closed chat button.
  • Corners (Rounded, Soft, Square) and Font.
  • Readability: samples of your colors with their contrast.
  • Advanced: Custom CSS (see Custom CSS).
  • Reset to the default look puts the look back. Chat experience settings stay as they are.

Show "Powered by Agentim" (in Look, just above More styling) controls the small badge under the chat:

  • Free: the switch is on and locked, with a Pro tag. The badge always shows. Click the switch or the tag to see what Pro adds.
  • Pro: the badge is hidden unless you turn the switch on. Chatbots that were already on Pro keep what they showed: no badge.

On Free, the Live preview shows the badge where visitors see it. Point at it (or Tab to it) for Remove on Pro, and turn on Preview without the badge to see your chat without it. That only changes the preview.

Chat experience#

How your website chat answers. These settings work on every plan, including Free.

SettingWhat it does
Bot messagesBubbles, or Open text across the chat (like ChatGPT). Visitors always see their own messages as bubbles.
Sources under AI answersThe pages an AI answer used. Visitors see one quiet line under the answer (the sites' icons and 3 sources); a tap lists the pages. Open in the chat opens a page in a panel that slides up inside the chat, with its full text and images, so visitors don't leave your site. Open in a new tab, or Hide the sources.
Show answers as they are writtenAI answers appear word by word while the AI writes them. Off: the whole answer appears when it's ready.
Show what the AI is doingWhile visitors wait: Thinking, Searching the docs, Reading 3 sources, Writing. Off: just Thinking.
Copy buttonA Copy button under each AI answer.
Message timesThe time under each group of messages, and the date when it isn't today (Yesterday, Oct 20), in each visitor's own time zone and 12 or 24 hour format.

Sources come from your AI flow's Knowledge: the pages and files the answer was based on. When the AI writes a link to a page on its own line (for example See pricing), it shows as a card too. Links inside a sentence stay in the text. Each page shows once, and your homepage is left out when a more specific page is there. When an answer numbers its sources ([1], [2]), the numbers become small links to those pages.

Our own docs open in the chat as a clean reading view. Other websites open in the panel when they allow it; sites that don't (many large sites block this) show a card with Open in new tab.

Custom CSS#

For developers: in Look, open More styling, then Advanced: Custom CSS. Your CSS is applied after the settings above, so when both change the same thing, your CSS wins.

  • Classes you can target (click to copy) lists the class names to use.
  • If your CSS also sets colors, the font or corners, a note tells you which settings it overrides.
  • Reset removes your CSS. Undo brings it back.

Classes include .widget, .widget-header, .widget-brand, .message-text, .message.inbound .message-text, .buttons button, .widget-footer and .answer-input.

Example: a bigger header and pill-shaped reply buttons
.widget-header {
  font-size: 18px;
}

.buttons button {
  border-radius: 999px;
}

Language#

Choose English or Hebrew. This changes the messages the bot writes on its own, like That doesn't look like a valid email, and the starting text of new steps. Messages you wrote stay as they are.

Choose Auto to have the bot answer in the customer's language when it can tell. Then pick the Language when the customer's isn't clear.

English chatbots get English defaults and Hebrew chatbots Hebrew ones. Typing back and beginning (or their Hebrew words) works in every chatbot.

Talk to a person#

In Behaviour: let customers reach your team by typing a word like agent at any point in the chat. Guide opens the Talk to a person step guide.

  1. 1

    Add the step

    If the chatbot has no Talk to a person step yet, click Add a Talk to a person step. It's added to your flow and turned on. Click Open the step to choose who gets notified.

  2. 2

    Turn it on

    Switch on Customers can ask for a person and choose the Talk to a person step.

  3. 3

    Set the keywords

    The defaults are human, agent and representative, plus two Hebrew words. Add your own or remove them.

Keywords match in any case. Only short messages count, so an answer that happens to mention agent isn't redirected.

In Behaviour: let customers go back to the menu from anywhere, without a "back to menu" button on every branch.

  • Switch on Let customers jump back to the menu.
  • Choose the Main menu step. It's usually Start (welcome message).
  • Set the Keywords. The defaults are menu, 0 and the Hebrew word for menu. The whole message must match, in any case. Number keywords are ignored while a step asks for a number.
  • Keep Add a "Main menu" button to buttons and lists on to add the button for customers who'd rather tap. Its Button text can be up to 20 characters.

WhatsApp allows 3 buttons and 10 list rows, so the button is added only where there's room. How the button looks shows a preview.

Older chatbots: website chat layout#

Chatbots created before the new website chat layout show Older chatbot: website chat layout at the bottom of Behaviour. Open it and switch on Use the new website chat layout to show each step with its own controls (buttons, lists, media), like in WhatsApp. Off, your website chat keeps its classic look. It goes live with Publish.

Newer chatbots already use the new layout, so they don't show this switch. In the API it's configuration.channelViews.

Step messages#

What the bot says on its own when an answer doesn't fit (That email doesn't look right, Please choose an option, the AI fallback) is edited in the step itself. Click the step on the canvas and open Messages at the bottom of its settings.

StepIts Messages
Email, Get Location, Get fileThe text when the answer isn't an email, an address that can be found, or a file.
Number, Date (without rules)Not a number or not a date, Thousand or million?, and the Got it note when words became a number. With rules, the step's own Messages section (out of range, wrong digits, ...) is used.
Options, Buttons, List, TemplatesTyped instead of tapping, an answer that matches no option, a number that isn't on the menu, the list button text, and the text sent with buttons when the step has none.
HTTPSend only numbers, when the call returns options.
AI AgentThe text sent when an AI answer fails (the customer never sees the error).
Talk to a personThe open and closed texts used when the step's own message is empty, and the reply to the #נציג אנושי command on WhatsApp.
  • Each field shows the default in grey. Leave it empty to keep the default; Reset to default undoes your text.
  • A text you write applies to every step of that kind in this chatbot, and goes live with Publish.
  • Use for all my chatbots makes it the text for all your chatbots (account owner or admin). A chatbot's own text always wins.
  • Use the {placeholder} chips to insert values the message can include. Messages are plain text: no HTML, and links as a plain address like https://example.com.

System messages#

System messages at the bottom of Settings is closed until you open it. It holds the few texts that belong to no step:

MessageWhen it's sent
Daily chat limit reached (website)The plan's daily conversation limit was reached.
The bot changed mid-chat: start overA customer was on a step that no longer exists after you published.
The same mistake several times in a row (WhatsApp)From the third wrong answer in a row.
Main menu buttonThe automatic button, when its own text in Main menu is empty.
  1. 1

    Open All bot messages

    Click All bot messages for every message in one list, with Search messages, groups and a Preview.

  2. 2

    Other languages

    With Auto language, click Add language (for example fr or es) to write texts for customers who write in that language.

  3. 3

    All chatbots

    Switch to All chatbots and click Save for all chatbots to change a text everywhere. Only the account owner or an admin can do this.

Where did Connected accounts go?#

Make and Google connections are shared by all your chatbots, so they moved from Settings to Integrations in the sidebar. See Connected accounts. Make and Google steps still let you connect right inside the step.
